The company’s dominance means it can easily manipulate voter behavior. Though it claims it won’t, just the possibility is a threat to democracy

This is like a scene out of NetFlix’s House of Cards where they use a Google type search engine to manipulate the people. Yes it’s possible, and no, you’ll have no idea it’s even happening to you. With Facebook’s timeline algorithm always changing and advertisers able to pay for dominance in visibility, you’re already being manipulated by Facebook’s paying clients anyway. I mean, the government already used FaceBook to manipulate our emotions in a secret study not too long ago, and that manipulation is most likely still going on, even if inadvertently.

The only way to prevent yourself from being manipulated by any one big company is to not spend all your time on just that one platform. Facebook is not the Internet, people, pop over to other platforms as well, like Twitter, or Reddit, or Snapchat, just to name a few, so that you can be exposed to things you may not be seeing in your hugely bought and controlled (read: manipulated) Facebook timeline.
