Why do politicians continue to push the zombie creed of austerity?

The fiction of financial constraint perpetuated by the budget allows authority figures to treat us like children – but it’s time we understood the facts

The government doesn’t operate like a household budget. Every penny the government spends but doesn’t take back in taxes is equal to every penny the private sector, that’s you and me, gets to spend and keep. There is no shortage of labor out there that the government can spend money on, in fact it’s quite the opposite… a lot of people are without jobs. It’s time we stop the whole austerity nonsense and get back to spending money on improving society as a whole.
