The picture of Omran Daqneesh, a 5-year-old injured in an Aleppo airstrike, inspired Alex, of Scarsdale, N.Y., to invite him into his family.
A little boy, who was so moved by the photo of Omran Daqneesh, asked the president of the Unites States to bring the boy so that he could be given a family, people who will care for him and give him a new life. This should be the inspiration for the world today. For a little boy to have more humanity in him than the major of the world is appalling for our time.
It is encouraging to see such care and warmth towards fellow humans. This little boy understands that a kid very much like himself needs the love of a family, of good people, and he is prepared to be that person, to be Omran’s brother. The world should view refugees just like this boy does, as fellow humans.
Only through such consideration can the world respond adequately to refugee crises and, in truth, to other humanitarian crises. Humans are above all else humans, and to treat them differently in their time of need is heartless of this world, and a failure on the part of humanity.
