Vowing that faction leaders will “pay a heavy price,” President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a dramatic appearance after his supporters flooded the streets of Turkey’s largest city.

What’s ironic about the president’s, and really the present government’s reaction, to this ordeal is that it still believes that the people want him and his increasingly autocratic ways. The military rose up because the people couldn’t. Democracy has become autocracy, and accepting is just a way to survive. The president is out of touch with the problems his people face, and to think that they still have the same faith in him as before is ludicrous.
