Despite the longest U.S. economic expansion on record, many sit on the edge of financial disaster.

This is because the unemployment figure doesn’t tell the whole story. Wages have remained essentially flat over the past 40 years, while everything else has gone up. If the job market was really tight, people would be able to demand much higher wages, and they need to go much higher for people to be able to afford things like buying a house someday.
