Is Facebook the ultimate spying machine?

Recently the FBI has been asking Congress to require tech companies like Facebook to give them backdoor access to everything on their websites.

This is similar to wiretapping telephones and cell phones, which, supposedly, require warrants to be tapped, but which we now know, are tapped without warrants anyway.

Since computers can more easily search for keywords on the Internet, like cloud, drill, Tamiflu and pork that will alert Homeland Security giving governments backdoor access to Facebook is a truly scary proposition.

I don’t really use Facebook that much, but recently I decided to look at the list of people that Facebook felt I might know.. I was BLOWN away by the fact that it suggested people that I had met ONCE, 15 years ago, as people I might know!

If Facebook is that accurate in figuring out who I met once in my life, imagine what oppressive governments could do with the same information in tracking down dissidents.

They could single handedly wipe out entire generations of people just by looking at Facebook’s “You Might Know this person” algorithm.

So, I’m not sure if we should be giving the FBI, or any governments for that matter, backdoor access to sites like Facebook…

Unless, of course, they ALREADY HAVE ACCESS.. if you know what I mean?

What do you guys think?  Should the FBI be given access?  Or, do you think they already have it?

Let me know in the comments below.
