Thousands died after Hurricane Maria, but it did not have to be that way. Early evidence should have led the government to a much stronger response.

The disaster happened after the hurricane due to our lack of government response. The thousands of people that died afterwards didn’t need to die if the US government had treated Puerto Rico like a regular US state.
