The post below is making the rounds today. Notice the second to last item:

“Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.”

And that was with only the husband being the main earner of the household!

Today, families struggle to pay their bills with both the husband and the wife working full-time. The thought of affording any full-time domestic help is completely out of the question.

Looks like we’re taking a step backwards in some respects.

It, of course, turns out a lot of these items on the list are inaccurate, for example:

Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.

False.

This may have been true at the end of the 19th century, but by 1915 the percentage was much lower.
